“Einstein's Riddle” is a logic puzzle that many allege can only be
solved by two percent of the population. Often attributed to Einstein
and/or other widely recognized great thinkers, the origins are unknown;
tracing the originator is made difficult because every generation
updates the details of the riddle to make it seem more modern.
One of
the more famous and widely available versions was published in Life
International in1962. It's broken down for you below. Can you solve it?
"One of the greatest minds of all time left us a gift.
1. There are five houses, each a different color.
2. In each house lives a person of a different nationality.
3. An Englishman lives in the red house.
4. The Spaniard owns a dog.
5. The occupant of the green house drinks coffee.
6. The Ukrainian drinks tea.
7. The green house sits immediately to the right of the ivory house.
8. The Old Gold smoker owns snails.
